Biography.

A native of Fort Worth, TX, Matthew Stookey is a saxophonist and educator based in the Dallas area. Matthew has a passion for education and enjoys working with saxophonists of all ages and skill levels. He maintains a private saxophone studio in the Wylie Independent School District where his students have received superior ratings at Solo & Ensemble competitions, in addition to earning seats in the All Region, Area, and State Concert and Jazz bands. Mr. Stookey enjoys creating immersive and fun educational saxophone summer camps, and has worked with the Young Saxophonist’s Institute to expand their summer camp offerings in the DFW area. Most recently he helped establish a YSI camp in Wylie, where he serves as site coordinator.

As a performer, Matthew holds the alto saxophone chair in the Lone Star Wind Orchestra. He has had the privilege of being invited to perform at numerous conferences and has performed at Alice Tully Hall at Lincoln Center with the Ithaca College Wind Ensemble. Matthew also had the opportunity to tour China with the University of Northern Colorado Wind Ensemble. Mr. Stookey enjoys the opportunity to present new music and under-performed works.

Matthew is currently pursuing a Doctor of Musical Arts in Saxophone Performance and serves as a Teaching Fellow at the University of North Texas. He holds a Master of Music in Saxophone Performance degree from Ithaca College, where he taught as a Graduate Assistant. He earned his Bachelor of Music Education degree from the University of Northern Colorado. Matthew has studied with Dr. Steven Mauk, Dr. Andrew Dahlke, and Timothy Ishii. He is an alumni member of Kappa Kappa Psi National Honorary Band Fraternity and a lifetime member of Pi Kappa Lambda National Music Honor Society. Matthew also serves as Co-Chair for the Ithaca College Council of Advocates Dallas Chapter.
